In the Gloaming 1999

Exhibited at the V. MacDonnell Gallery, Toronto, ON

These works are embedded in the vernacular of landscape painting. However they take a more expansive view of what it means to experience and re-present the land, the earth and the four elements. The forces of history and of humanity, have left their mark upon these topographies. The vantage points can be from the sky, from beneath the ground or from both at the same time. They include botanical and organic materials that refer back to the places from which they came. In these works I wrest the art of landscape painting from sentimental, romantic fantasies. This is a mutable earth that endures in recovered time.
